Admission Process for MBBS in India for Indian Students

Every year, lakhs of students aspire to join medical colleges in India, but the number of available seats remains limited. Therefore, the admission process is highly competitive.

Eligibility Criteria for Indian Students

Before applying for MBBS in India, candidates must meet certain eligibility criteria, which are prescribed by the Medical Council of India (MCI) or National Medical Commission (NMC), and other relevant bodies.

Age Criteria

The candidate must be at least 17 years of age as of December 31st of the year of admission. This means that candidates should have completed 17 years of age on or before December 31st of the year in which they are seeking admission.

There is no upper age limit for MBBS admissions, but candidates must adhere to the minimum age requirement.

Academic Qualifications

To be eligible for MBBS in India, candidates must have completed their higher secondary education (12th grade) or an equivalent examination with Physics, Chemistry, and Biology as mandatory subjects. Additionally, candidates must have scored at least 50% marks in aggregate in these subjects. For reserved category students (SC/ST/OBC), the percentage requirement may be relaxed to 40%.

In addition to this, the candidate must have studied English as one of the subjects in their 12th-grade curriculum.

NEET Requirement

The National Eligibility Test (NEET) is a compulsory subject for all Indian students who wish to pursue MBBS in India. NEET is a national medical entrance exam conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA). It is an exam. The only entrance for MBBS in India. Candidates must qualify in NEET to be eligible for admission in any medical college. Whether it is the public or private sector,

Candidates who wish to apply for MBBS in India must register for NEET and obtain the required minimum qualifying marks to be eligible for the counseling process.

NEET – National Eligibility cum Entrance Test

NEET is an entrance exam which determines a student’s eligibility for MBBS, BDS (Bachelor of Dental Surgery) and other medical courses in India. This is one of the most important tests for medical applicants. Should be an Indian Citizen, Non-Resident Indian (NRI), Foreign Citizen.

NEET Eligibility

  1. NEET Qualifications Candidates must fulfill the following conditions to apply for NEET. Nationality:

NEET Counseling and Seat Allocation

Once candidates have qualified NEET, the next step is the counseling process, which is conducted by the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) and the Medical Counseling Committee (MCC) for central government medical colleges and by the respective state authorities for state-based medical colleges.

All India Quota (AIQ)

 Consulting Counseling for medical and dental admission in India is a nationwide process.

 For this reason, 15% of MBBS and BDS seats in government colleges and all seats in central deemed universities and AIIMS are open to students from the state

This process is managed by a Medical Advisory Committee (MCC).

State quota consultation

 State counseling will be conducted for remaining 85% seats in government medical colleges. Students applying under state quota must be residents of the state and the counseling process is controlled by the respective state government.
