The NEET PG counselling 2025 is conducted by the Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) for admission to MD/MS courses under 50% All India Quota seats. The remaining 50% of seats will be filled by the admission committees appointed by the respective state governments. To be eligible for the counselling process, candidates must secure the minimum cutoff scores required for All India Quota seats and register for the counselling. The NEET PG counselling for 2025 will be conducted online starting from May 2025 for admissions to both All India and State quotas. 

The National Board of Examinations (NBE) is responsible for conducting the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test for Postgraduate (NEET-PG) exam. This exam is a requirement for admission to Doctor of Medicine (MD), Master of Surgery (MS), and PG Diploma programs in 6,102 government, private, and deemed/central universities, with a total of 26,168 MD seats, 13,649 MS seats, and 922 PG Diploma seats available. The NBE has announced that the NEET PG 2025  exam will take place on August 3, 2025, and the NEET PG 2025 application form was released on April 17, 2025.

NEET UG counselling 2025: Overview

Here are some important details regarding the factors involved in medical admissions in India:

  • Admissions to medical courses through the All India Quota (AIQ) are conducted by the Directorate General of Health Sciences (DGHS) for the National Medical Council, while admissions through the State Quota are managed by respective state authorities.
  • The counselling website for AIQ is MCC.nic.in, and the details for State Quota are given in the table below.
  • The seat intake for AIQ includes 15% of government seats, 100% of Deemed and Central University seats, ESIC, AFMC, AIIMS, and JIPMER seats. For State Quota, it includes 85% of government seats and 100% of private seats in the state.
  • The Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) is responsible for conducting four rounds of counselling for MBBS admissions in India, namely AIQ Round 1, AIQ Round 2, AIQ Mop-up round, and stray vacancy round. Eligibility for these rounds is based on NEET 2023 results, except for candidates from the Union Territory of J&K. Any vacant seats after AIQ Round 2 will be returned to the respective states.

NEET PG counselling for the year 2025 will be conducted by the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) on behalf of the Medical Counselling Committee (MCC). The counselling will be held for admission to 50% of seats under All India Quota (AIQ) and 100% of seats in deemed and central universities and ESIC institutes.

The registration for the round-wise NEET PG counselling for all the aforementioned institutes will be done through a single window.

For the 50% AIQ seats in government institutes, four rounds of NEET PG counselling 2025 will be conducted. After the second round of counselling, MCC will conduct an additional mop-up round for the 100% seats in deemed and central universities.

Types of NEET PG 2025 counselling

Counselling for NEET PG is conducted by two different authorities, each responsible for different sets of participating institutes. The first counselling session is the MCC NEET PG counselling, which is conducted by the Directorate General of Health Services Medical Counselling Committee. This counselling session is responsible for 50% of the All India Quota (AIQ) seats in government institutions, central universities, deemed universities, ESIC and AFMS institutes.

The second counselling session is the state quota NEET PG counselling, which is conducted by the respective state government or its authorized body. This session is responsible for 50% of the state quota seats in government colleges, as well as 100% of the seats in private medical, minority institutes, and universities established by an act of state, municipal bodies trust, society or company located in the state.

NEET PG Counselling 2025

Step 1: Registration for NEET PG counselling

To register for NEET PG counselling 2025, go to the official website of the Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) at MCC.nic.in and click on the “New Registration” link. You will need to provide your stream, roll number, testing ID, name, date of birth, and security pin in the registration form.In the next window, you will be required to submit your parent’s name, address, pin code, email ID, mobile number, a security question and answer, and create a password. Once you have entered all the required information, verify the details and click on the “Submit” button.
After submitting the form, a registration slip will be generated which will contain your login and registration details. Keep this slip safe as you will need it to access your account for further counselling-related activities.

Step 2: Log in for NEET PG 2025 counselling

After successfully registering for NEET PG counselling 2025, candidates can log in to their account using their testing ID or confirmation number as the login ID and the chosen password. Once logged in, candidates will be required to pay the counselling registration fee based on their category, as shown in the table below:

Category Security Deposit Fee

In addition to the registration fee, candidates must also pay a security deposit fee, which will be refunded if the candidate is not allotted a seat during the counselling process. The amount of the security deposit fee varies based on the candidate’s category and the type of institute they are applying to, as shown in the table below:

  • AIQ/Central University UR candidates ₹25,000
  • SC/ST/OBC/PH candidates ₹10,000
  • Deemed University candidates ₹2,00,000

Step 3: NEET PG filling and submission of choices

Once candidates log in to their account, they should click on the “Available Choices” link to view the list of available options based on their credentials, such as gender and category.
To fill and submit their choices, candidates should follow these steps:

  • Click on the “Choice Filling” icon on the left side of the screen.
  • Click on the “Adding” icon to add the available choices to the right side of the screen.
  • Click on the “Save and Continue” button to save the selected choices.
  • Use the upper and lower arrows to adjust the order of the selected choices or the delete button to remove any options. Swapping preferences is also an option.
  • If a candidate wishes to delete multiple choices at once, they can select the choices and click on the “Uncheck All” option to confirm the deletion.
  • Finally, click on the “Save and Go to Home” option.

Step 4: NEET PG 2025 mock counselling

The MCC conducts an online NEET PG mock counselling to provide students with a better understanding of how the actual counselling process works. During the mock counselling, seats are allotted based on the applicant’s choices and All India Rank. Aspirants are also given the opportunity to modify their choices after the mock counselling process to better align their preferences with their goals.

Step 5: Choice locking of NEET PG 2025 counselling

After selecting their preferred choices, aspirants can lock them by clicking on “Choice Lock.” Once choices are locked, they cannot be modified.
To lock their choices, aspirants should follow these steps:

  • Click on “Choice Lock” to confirm their selected options, including seat preferences.
  • Next, click on “Lock Counselling” and enter their password to secure the lock.
  • Finally, aspirants should take a printout of their filled choices for future reference.

Step 6: NEET PG counselling 2025 seat allotment

The MCC will release the NEET PG counselling result for each registered candidate, which will include their admission status and seat allotment. Candidates can check their seat allotment status by logging into their accounts.

Step 7: Reporting at allotted colleges

Once the seat allotment is completed, aspirants must download the allotment letter from the website. The letter will contain information about the allotted institute, relevant documents, and fees that need to be submitted. It is important for candidates to report to the institute on the specified date as mentioned in the allotment letter. Failure to report on time will result in disqualification. That’s all there is to it!

Documents to be carried at the time of reporting to the allotted colleges:

  • NEET PG 2025 admit card
  • NEET PG result scorecard
  • Mark sheet of MBBS/BDS 1, 2, and 3 professional examinations
  • MBBS/BDS degree certificate or provisional certificate
  • Institute completion certificate or certificate from the head of the institution stating the completion of the internship by June 30, 2025
  • MCI or SMC issued permanent/provisional registration certificate (applicable to candidates who will complete their internship on or before June 30, 2025)
  • High school or higher secondary certificate/birth certificate as proof of birth date
  • Identification proofs such as PAN card, driving license, voter ID, Passport, or Aadhaar card for admission to the allotted college’s

Candidates belonging to respective categories must also carry the following certificates:

  • SC/ST certificate with the sub-caste mentioned in English or Hindi issued by the competent authority
  • OBC certificate issued by the competent authority, and the sub-caste must be related to the central list of OBC
  • Orthopedic Physically Handicapped (OPH) certificate issued from constituted or authorized medical boards
  • No other OPH certificate issued by any other authority will be entertained.

NEET PG counselling 2025 Round 2

Candidates who were not allotted seats in Round 1 of NEET PG counselling can participate in Round 2 by filling in fresh seat preferences. There is no need to register again to participate in Round 2. The seat allotment process in Round 2 will be based on aspirants’ choices and merit. It is important for candidates to select their college preferences and courses to be eligible for the second round.

Who is eligible for round 2 counselling

To be eligible for Round 2 of NEET PG 2025 counselling, a candidate must be in one of the following groups:

  • Group I: Registered candidates who were not allotted any seat in Round 1
  • Group II: Candidates whose seat was cancelled during document verification or due to a change in category
  • Group III: Aspirants who have joined a college in Round 1 but want to upgrade their seat in Round 2.

Who is not eligible for round 2 counselling

The following candidates are not eligible for Round 2 of NEET PG 2025 counselling:

  • Aspirants who were allotted a seat in Round 1 but did not report to the allotted institute
  • Candidates who reported to the allotted institute in Round 1 but later withdrew their seat
  • Applicants who became ineligible for admission due to a change in their category
  • Students who did not opt for up-gradation of seats in Round 1

NEET PG 2025 Counselling: Mop up round

The mop-up round will allocate seats in deemed, central universities, and ESIC institutes. Candidates who did not report to the college allotted to them in rounds one and two will have to register for the NEET PG mop-up counselling 2025. Those who did not receive a seat in either round one or two of NEET PG counselling 2025 are not required to register again for the mop-up round. In this round, all candidates must submit fresh choices of colleges/courses for the seat allotment process. The results of the seat allotment for the mop-up round will be published on the official website.

NEET PG counselling for state quota seats

For the 50% state quota seats, the NEET PG 2025 counselling will be conducted by the respective state admission committees. Each state will publish its own counseling schedule for admission to NEET PG medical courses. The state admission committees will use the NEET PG results to prepare state merit ranks for admission to all medical institutions established by local bodies and state governments.

NEET PG counselling 2025 for AFMS institutes

The NEET PG 2025 counselling for admission to approximately 295 PG medical seats in eight Armed Forces Medical Services (AFMS) institutes will be conducted by the MCC. Aspirants who are interested in MD/MS/PG Diploma seats in AFMS institutes must indicate their preference by selecting the ‘Yes/No’ option in the NEET PG application form. After the result is announced, aspirants whose AFMS application form has been accepted will be called for the counselling process for MD/MS Admission in India.
